S1 Progress: Weeks 1-2

Project: Add an observational piece to your portfolio. Demonstrate craft and composition.

Goals:

• Add a grid to the reference and the canvas

• Start painting

I am happy to get a good start on my painting. I like my reference picture, so all I need to do is replicate it. Easy!

I thought the grid would be more helpful than it was. I divided the canvas into 2''x2'' squares, which in retrospect, wasn't precise enough, especially with the complexity in the background and foreground. I also painted over the grid to the point of it being useless. I think I will do another attempt at the grid, this time with 1''x1'' squares and a darker mark.
