We had an in-class field trip on the 13th! We went to see the Scholastic Art Award Winners.
The experience was very lovely. First, I sat in front of the tv playing all of the film and animation winners. I studied the other animations, critiquing them in my head. I think it was informative for me to compare my animation to the others. I was honestly shocked my animation got a silver key instead of a gold key because I thought it would be a less competitive category. However, watching the others satisfied my curiosity as to why I didn't win.
Next, seeing my own art was underwhelming and even a bit embarrassing. I feel more comfortable doing personal art when the audience is limited to my classmates. I get a bit self-conscious when non-Art 4/5 see my art when it's so personal to me. I did enjoy seeing the other winners. The art in the show had a different "vibe" to art in museums. I'm not sure if it's the smaller size, relatable subject matter, modern style, or what. Regardless, I enjoyed the art much more than the art in museums. I realized that as an adult, I hope to visit the Scholastic Art show near me and other high school shows.
Later that day, Matilde told me she overheard someone say my animation made them cry. That was worth more than a thousand gold keys.
