Artist Copy Progress: Week 2

Project: Pick a master figure drawing. Copy it. Try and replicate the artist's mark.

Goals this week:

• Start adding the mark

I started with the feet and worked my way up to the face. I tried to replicate the cross-hatching that Boucher uses. I also saw the variation in line weight for the contours of the figure. Areas in shadow would have thicker outlines than areas in the light. For example, the outline of the figure's right shoulder is thinner and more orange than the right shoulder, which is more brown. I found that smudging and blending the brown with white would make the line more orange. I finished this copy by erasing the pencil grid lines I used to transfer the image. The next step in this project is to do a self-portrait in the artist's style, which I'll be starting next week.
